Fredericton High School TATU

The FHS TATU club, advised by the fabulous Pat Sullivan, boasts a membership of 24 students, with as many as 31 attending a single meeting! Let's talk to Lora Christopher and Maddie West and find out more...

What was your favorite activity this year?
We enjoyed the classroom presentations the most because we got to see the grade 9 students get involved and learn about the effects of tobacco and learn about our club.

What tobacco awareness activity seems to be most popular at your school?
We received a lot of attention at our booth in the school health fair, recruited a lot of new members. And students really liked the simulated smoker's lungs at our display during tobacco reduction week.

What does your TATU club do that is really unique?
Our group gives students information instead of lecturing them. It gives them a chance to make an informed decision. Does your club visit feeder schools to talk about tobacco?
Our group plans to go to middle schools in the spring, the first ones are booked for the week of Feb 27th. The plan is to discuss tobacco ingredients, show a video, play tobacco trivia game and answer questions.

What results have you noticed as a result of your TATU club?
We have noticed that less students smoke at our school and there is increased awareness about tobacco.

Why should other schools start a TATU club?
Other schools should start TATU because they can inform other students about tobacco.

Any final comments?
TATU is a great way for kids to get involved at school!
